Message from the Dean

Independence and creative thinking are the key to success in our increasingly interconnected, globalized society. Our program aims to develop individuals with such qualities, carrying out the mission shared with the undergraduate program of International Studies at Kanazawa University. We are particularly specialized for the training of Japanese studies and language experts, as well as the development of professionals with both academic and practical skills and knowledge in the field of history, politics, culture and international relations. Since 2014, Kanazawa University has been committed to the Top Global University Project (Super Global Universities), certified by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. With professional experience and academic expertise, our faculty members are leading this project and help students to prosper in their future endeavors.

About the Division of International Studies

We aim to support students to develop foreign language skills, encourage students to have keen interests in international issues, prepare students to have in-depth knowledge in their respective field of researches.

Our two courses are: “International Relations and Area Studies Course” and “Japanese Education and Japanese Culture Studies.” We also have a English taught “International Studies Program” for international students and ambitious Japanese students.

Completion Requirement

Degree candidates are required to complete a minimum of 2-year study, meet the minimum credit set by the Division of International Studies, submit a final thesis and pass the final screening.

About the Requirements for Degree Acquisition

1) Obtaining the Degree
The degree would be conferred to the candidates who possess a proficiency in foreign languages, keen interests in foreign cultures, conducted a deep and innovative research in the subject (or inter-disciplinary research) related to International Relations or Japanese Culture.

2) Requirements for Degree Acquisition
(1) Master in International Studies
Conducted a research related to International Studies or Japanese culture, submitted and pass the thesis final screening, completed the minimum credit requirements as the following: At least completed 30 credits in total. Out of the Major Course offered, 6 credits from Compulsory Subjects; 4 credits from Optional Compulsory Subjects. Out of the Specialized Course offered, 4 credits from Basic Specialized Subjects; 4 credits from Advanced Specialized Subjects.

(2) Master in Arts.
Conducted a research related to subjects mentioned above, by using approaches from other social science disciplinary (such as Economics, Sociology, Linguistics, Psychology), submitted and pass the thesis final screening, completed the minimum credit requirements as mentioned above.
